A CARTERSVILLE WOMAN WAS JAILED ON DRUG CHARGES. 34-YEAR-OLD SHELLY ALEEN MOORE IS CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF POSSESSION OF SCHEDULE IV DRUGS, AND ONE COUNT EACH OF POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE AND VIOLATING PROBATION.

BARTOW COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARE LOOKING FOR AN INMATE WHO ESCAPED DURING A WORK DETAIL AT THE CLARENCE BROWN CONFERENCE CENTER. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, A DEPUTY SUPERVISING THE FIVE-INMATE CREW DISCOVERED BRIAN TROY ABERLE MISSING AROUND 2:45 P.M. LAST FRIDAY. WARRANTS WERE TAKEN CHARGING ABERLE WITH ESCAPE AND THEFT BY TAKING.

AN AIR COMPRESSOR UNIT WAS TAKEN FROM A HOME ON NORTHPOINT DRIVE IN ACWORTH. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE WIRE COVER, FAN ASSEMBLY AND ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT BOARD HAD BEEN THROWN IN THE WOODLINE BEHIND THE RESIDENCE.

Man Shot by Officer was Wanted for Other Burglaries

A MAN WHO WAS SHOT AND KILLED BY A CARTERSVILLE POLICE OFFICER DURING AN ALLEGED BURGLARY AT SCHNITZER RECYCLING LAST SUNDAY HAD ESCAPED FROM BARTOW COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES AND STATE PROBATION OFFICERS THE WEEK BEFORE.

ACCORDING TO A NEWS RELEASE, OFFICERS ARRIVED AT A HOME ON RYAN ROAD TO ARREST BOWLEN, AND HE ESCAPED FROM CUSTODY, HANDCUFFED AFTER BEING ARRESTED FOR VIOLATING PROBATION. SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATORS DISCOVERED A LARGE AMOUNT OF PROPERTY IN THE RESIDENCE THAT THEY THINK WAS STOLEN FROM LOCAL CONVENIENCE STORES. THEY ALSO RECOVERED THREE FIREARMS, ONE OF WHICH HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM A DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLE ON OCTOBER 3.

ACCORDING TO THE RELEASE, THE EVIDENCE LINKED BOWLEN TO BURGLARIES AT CASS-WHITE GROCERY, RED BARN GROCERY, AUSTIN’S FEED AND SEED, THE VISITOR’S CENTER AND OFFICES AT RED TOP MOUNTAIN STATE PARK, AND MARTIN’S AUTO PARTS. WARRANTS WERE ISSUED CHARGING BOWLEN WITH THEFT BY TAKING FOR STEALING A MOTOR VEHICLE FROM MARTIN’S AUTO PARTS. THAT VEHICLE WAS INVOVLED IN A CHASE ON CASS PINE LOG ROAD ON OCTOBER 13. AND, A CHEVY ASTRO VAN REPORTED STOLEN FROM C AND N TIRE SHOP ON CASS-WHITE ROAD WAS FOUND AT THE RYAN ROAD HOME.

BOWLEN AND 31-YEAR-OLD STEPHEN HAYNES CLARK ALLEGEDLY ROBBED SCHNITZER RECYCLING LAST SUNDAY. CLARK WAS ARRESTED AFTER TRYING TO FLEE THE SCENE. BOWLEN ALLEGEDLY ATTACKED ONE OF THE OFFICERS AT THE SCENE, WHO IN TURN SHOT HIM. BOWLEN LATER DIED AT GRADY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN ATLANTA. THE OFFICER INVOLVED, SARA ELLINGTON, HAS BEEN PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE UNTIL THE INVESTIGATION IS FINISHED.

More Charges Filed Against Alleged Schnitzer Recycling Burglar

A MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY BURGLARIZING SCHNITZER RECYCLING ON SUNDAY IS CHARGED WITH FOUR OTHER BURGLARIES.

ACCORDING TO A NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CARTERSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, 31-YEAR-OLD STEPHEN HAYNES CLARK ALLEGEDLY BURGLARIZED THREE BUSINESSES ON U.S. HIGHWAY 411 — THE SUNOCO CONVENIENCE STORE, BONES AND GRISTLES AND THE TEXACO CONVENIENCE STORE. HE ALSO IS ACCUSED OF STEALING A CAMPER FROM A HOME ON U.S. HIGHWAY 411.

CLARK WAS ARRESTED ON SUNDAY AFTER TRYING TO FLEE FROM POLICE AT SCHNITZER RECYCLING. A SECOND MAN INVOLVED, JOSEPH ADAM BOWLEN, ALLEGEDLY ATTACKED ONE OF THE OFFICERS AT THE SCENE, WHO IN TURN SHOT HIM. BOWLEN LATER DIED AT GRADY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN ATLANTA. THE OFFICER INVOLVED, SARA ELLINGTON, HAS BEEN PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE UNTIL THE INVESTIGATION IS FINISHED.

Man Stabbed in Foot During Attempted Robbery

A CARTERSVILLE MAN SAID HE WAS STABBED IN THE FOOT DURING AN ATTEMPTED ROBBERY ON SHINALL-GAINES ROAD.

ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE VICTIM SAID HE WAS RIDING HOME ON HIS BIKE WHEN HE WAS APPROACHED BY WHITE MAN WHO ATTEMPTED TO ROB HIM. THE VICTIM SAID THAT WHEN HE TOLD THE SUSPECT HE DIDN’T HAVE ANY MONEY, THE SUSPECT STABBED HIM IN THE LEFT FOOT AND TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO STAB HIM IN THE BACK. THE VICTIM REFUSED MEDICAL TREATMENT. THE SUSPECT RAN TOWARD CASSVILLE CEMETERY AND THEN FLED IN A BLACK TRUCK.

THE SUSPECT IS APPROXIMATELY 26 OR 27 YEARS OLD. HE WAS WEARING A DARK GREY SWEATSHIRT AND BLACK PANTS.

Substance Abuse Program Chief Jailed on Drug Charges

THE PRESIDENT AND CEO OF A NON-PROFIT SUBSTANCE ABUSE ORGANIZATION WAS ARRESTED IN BARTOW COUNTY ON DRUG CHARGES.

ACCORDING TO A NEWS RELEASE FROM THE BARTOW COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, AGENTS WITH THE BARTOW-CARTERSVILLE DRUG TASK FORCE PURCHASED DRUGS FROM 35-YEAR-OLD SUSANNAH M. MONARCHIK OF MARIETTA AND 39-YEAR-OLD CANDACE HUTCHINSON MARTEL OF WOODSTOCK. MONARCHIK HEADS THE ATLANTA-BASED ORGANIZATION PAY IT FORWARD WHICH, ACCORDING TO ITS WEBSITE, IS A RESIDENTIAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM CURRENTLY SERVING 18 HOMES.

THE INVESTIGATION TOOK A MONTH, AND AGENTS SEIZED MORE THAN 28 GRAMS OF METHAMPHETAMINE. MONARCHIK IS CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING METHAMPHETAMINE AND UNLAWFUL USE OF A COMMUNICATION FACILITY, AND MARTEL IS CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING METHAMPHETAMINE. THEY REMAIN IN THE BARTOW COUNTY JAIL PENDING A BOND HEARING. OFFICIALS SAY MORE ARRESTS IN THE CASE ARE EXPECTED.

Man Leads Deputies on Chase

OFFICIALS WITH THE BARTOW COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARE LOOKING FOR A MAN WHO LED A DEPUTY ON A CHASE IN THE AREA OF TWO RUN CREEK. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, A DEPUTY ATTEMPTED A TRAFFIC STOP ON AN OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS ON CASS-WHITE ROAD FOR NOT HAVING A LICENSE PLATE. WHEN THE DEPUTY ACTIVATED HIS EMERGENCY LIGHTS, THE DRIVER OF THE OLDSMOBILE WEAVED INTO THE OTHER LANE AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD, JERKING SHARPLY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES PER HOUR.

THE VEHICLE TURNED ONTO BROWN LOOP AND CONTINUED TRAVELING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD AND JERKING ERRATICALLY. THE DEPUTY OBSERVED THE DRIVER OPEN HIS DOOR AND THROW SOMETHING OUT.

AFTER THE DRIVER TURNED ONTO BROWN LOOP SPUR AND PULLED INTO A YARD, THE DRIVER FLED AND RAN THROUGH A PASTURE AT THE REAR OF THE PROPERTY. THE DEPUTY CHASED HIM APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS AND OVER AN ELECTRICAL FENCE BEFORE LOSING SIGHT OF HIM. DURING THE CHASE, THE VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN A HILL TOWARD TWO RUN CREEK. THE CAR’S OWNER TOLD THE DEPUTY SHE HAD LET A MAN NAMED DERRICK BORROW IT.

THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS STANDING APPROXIMATELY 5-FEET, 10-INCHES TALL AND WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 160 POUNDS. HE WAS WEARING BLUE JEANS AND A DARK COAT, AND APPEARED TO HAVE SHORT, DARK HAIR.

AN ADAIRSVILLE MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER ADAIRSVILLE POLICE OFFICERS CAUGHT HIM WITH 20 INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED DOSES OF MARIJUANA. ACCORDING TO A NEWS RELEASE, OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED FOR A REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS PERSON EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THEY FOUND 30-YEAR-OLD DEANGELO DEE BUCKNER WALKING DOWN THE STREET AND DISCOVERED THE DRUGS IN HIS POCKET. HE IS CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA WITH THE INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE AND POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA. HE IS BEING HELD IN THE BARTOW COUNTY JAIL PENDING BOND.

AN ACWORTH MAN WAS TREATED AT CARTERSVILLE MEDICAL CENTER AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE LEG. THE VICTIM’S BROTHER, WHO SAID HE INITIALLY LIED TO BARTOW COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES, EVENTUALLY TOLD DEPUTIES HE RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM A FRIEND WHO SAID HIS BROTHER NEEDED HELP. HE ARRIVED IN THE AREA OF CLARK CIRCLE AND CREEK DRIVE TO FIND HIS BROTHER WITH A GUNSHOT WOUND TO HIS LEFT LEG. THE VICTIM TOLD DEPUTIES HE WAS WALKING WITH HIS BROTHER ON CLARK CIRCLE WHEN A CAR PULLED UP BESIDE THEM AND SOMEONE SHOT HIM.

CLOSE TO $800 WAS TAKEN FROM A SAFE AT A BUSINESS ON EAST MAIN STREET. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE MANAGER AT THE DOLLAR TREE DISCOVERED THE THEFT AFTER ARRIVING FOR WORK ON SUNDAY MORNING AND FOUND THE OFFICE DOOR OPEN. ENTRY TO THE STORE WAS MADE THROUGH A REAR FIRE DOOR.

COPPER WIRE WAS TAKEN FROM THE FURNACE IN A MOBILE HOME ON ROBERTS DRIVE IN ACWORTH. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, DAMAGE IS ESTIMATED AT APPROXIMATELY $600.
